Welcome to Mexico!

I’m sitting in the lounge of my hostel, working, writing new stories, many of them about tragedies. Meanwhile, this girl is sitting besides me crying and talking on the phone in a language  I can’t recognize. She’s been raped.

She was raped in my country. Mexico. Mexico lindo y querido. True, things like this happen all the time, everywhere. But, while I sit here unable to say or do anything, I cannot stop asking myself: what the fuck is wrong with my country, us, Mexicans?

I don’t like generalizations, but since I got to San Cristobal de las Casas yesterday afternoon after six weeks away, I’ve been questioning that. Especially, after been received by more than three military checkpoints.

For the first time, I don’t have anything to say. Everybody is fucking right, the news, the governments, the whole world: Mexico sucks, and Mexico is a fucking failed state. And nobody wants to take responsibility, not even me.

I shouldn’t write this post, I feel as a journalist exploiting someone, taking advantage. Oh wait that’s what I am.
